Mueni is blind & now goes to a special school in
Nairobi, operated by Salvation Army. In
her 1st year, she has lots of new friends, has adjusted well &
enjoys learning! Elizabeth takes her back to Mbooni during the trimester school breaks and returns her to school when the breaks are over.
The able bodied women want to learn to plant &
harvest but they need the tools to garden on their own. They will
also need seeds, fertilizer and insecticides.
Since
we gave out Bibles two years ago, we have many who come to Elizabeth’s door
requesting one. She would like to have
Bibles available for any child or adult in the community who has never had a
Bible. Many needed!
The children don’t have enough to eat & they need to
be in school consistently each year, each trimester. They need school tuition, a school uniform and school supplies. Shoes are about $10 and although not required, would be very nice for them to have.
Clean water is such a blessing! It’s still hard work, but disease free. Gasoline is needed to run the generator for
the borehole.
A sheep will likely give birth twice a year which can be sold for income
for a widow & the orphans she may be caring for.
There’s
no heat in the homes in Mbooni, but the mountain temperatures can get down into
the 40s on the coldest nights. Those received 2 years ago were so appreciated. Some of
the widowed women are sick and house/bed bound.
The women were very thankful for the food they are given
last year. Many of them are older &
have taken in orphaned children they did not give birth to. It has been helpful to add more nutritious foods to their diets too.
We
have up to 90 orphaned children come for a meal and Bible lesson. The kids really enjoy learning about Jesus and we were
able to provide construction paper at the special Easter celebration this
year! Some of these children don’t get
two meals a day. There are two meals and lessons each week for the orphaned children.
